Creating A New Nest

Birdie Blue Mahj was born from a love of Mah Jongg, community, and a little nod to one of the game’s most recognizable tiles. The name Birdie Blue is an homage to the One Bam tile, which traditionally features a bird—and bluebirds just happen to be my favorite.

After spending many years focused on raising my three children, I found myself entering a new season of life. I’m a wife, a mom, a former speech therapist, and now an official empty nester. With all three kids having flown the nest, it felt like the perfect time for me to spread my own wings and build something around a game I enjoy—one that lets me connect with people, build community, and tap into my creative side along the way.

I started Birdie Blue Mahj in April 2026, and since then I’ve had the privilege of teaching more than 250 people how to play. What I love most about Mah Jongg is that it offers so much more than a game. There’s strategy, competition, problem-solving, laughter, and connection. It’s a game that engages all the senses and somehow has a way of bringing people together around the table.

I especially enjoy meeting new people, introducing beginners to the game, and helping experienced players elevate their play and become more confident and strategic. Whether you’re brand new to Mahj or ready to take your game to the next level, there’s always room to learn—and always room at the table.

When I’m not around a Mah Jongg table, you can usually find me spending time with my two Bernedoodles (Poppy, 3, and Norton, 6), out on the golf course with my husband or spending time with my children.

After years of pouring my energy into my family, becoming an empty nester gave me the chance to create a new kind of nest—one built around Mah Jongg, connection, and community. Come join the Birdie Blue nest, where there’s always room to learn, play, connect, and have a little fun along the way.
